News on Orient Game Mon 24th Jul 2000 14:14
Town's friendly at Leyton Orient next Wednesday (KO 7.45) will cost supporters £10 not £15 as originally advertised or £5 as subsequently reported. Town fans will be accommodated in the 1258 seater East Stand, South Wing. O's Chairman and friend of snooker players Barry Hearn welcomed Town fans to the fixture: "We are looking forward to welcoming the staff and fans of Ipswich Town Football Club to the Matchroom Stadium [ie Brisbane Road] and would like to wish them the very best of luck for the next season, in what will hopefully be the start of a very long and prosperous stay in the Premier League." The trip wil also give fans a look at Matt Lockwood, often mentioned in connection with Town last season.
Town Unchanged Sunday Fri 05th May 2000 14:25
Town are likely to be unchanged from last week's line up for the quite spectacualrly crucial game with Walsall on Sunday (1.30pm KO and on Sky for those of you who've been asleep for the last week). Marcus Stewart has already said that he will be OK to play in what he sees as the biggest game of his career. Mark Venus is likely to struggle by on his ankle as he has all season, before having an operation in the summer. He may play his usual 75-80 minutes before being replaced. New haircut-boy Gary Croft's mates at Blackburn are determined that no-one is going to partying on their turf again this season. Skipper Lee Carsley told City: "We do not want you celebrating here." Let's hope Blackburn's resolve is as strong as that and that Town get the early goals that will make Sunday just that little bit less stressful...
Defender Worries Tue 04th Apr 2000 13:25
Town still have worries over defenders Fabian Wilnis (hamstring) and Gary Croft (groin). Both will take fitness tests before tonight's game with WBA.
Scowy Very Doubtful Fri 10th Mar 2000 13:41
Town's man of the season so far, James Scowcroft is rated as very doubtful for tomorrow's game at Wolves. The other man missing from Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Blackburn, John McGreal stands a good chance of being fit, although George Burley may stick with Manu Thetis who had an impressive time against the Ewood Park side. Thetis and Fabian Wilnis were singled out for special praise by George Burley and both will be looking for starts at Molineux. Pressuring Wilnis will be Gary Croft who has now recovered from his gashed knee. Also nearing the first team is Mark Venus who came through the reserve game in the week, but is not considered fit enough to start tomorrow. Other centre-half injury problem Titus Bramble has also resumed training, although he is a long way from being fit for first team consideration. George Burley has told Marcus Stewart to be more selfish and to drop deep less. After two goals in his first two games Stewart has failed to find the net in his next three. Probable squad: R Wright, Branagan, Wilnis, Clegg, Clapham, Croft, Stockwell, Mowbray, Brown
Town 2-1 Huddersfield Sun 13th Feb 2000 22:37
As was inevitable Marcus Stewart was the man that ultimately made the difference between Town and Huddersfield, his former employer. The £2.5 million man hit the Blues' second in the 73rd minute after James Scowcroft had scored Town's first and Dean Gorre had hit an equaliser for the Yorkshire side.
Other Town News Tue 04th Jan 2000 12:32
With Christmas and the new millennium celebrations over NewsNet has a bit of catching up to do on events at Portman Road. Probably the biggest new is that Titus Bramble has gone on loan to Colchester United and made his debut in yesterday's 1-1 draw away at Blackpool. The player has gone to Layer Road with a view to him gaining some League experience as Wayne Brown did a couple of years back. Since his injuries Titus has had few opportunities to play reserve football and a few games on loan may bring him into the Town picture again.
